Following the success of the concert version of
Bizet’s Carmen from a few seasons ago, we are pleased to present Puccini’s masterpiece, set in early 1900’s Japan. As the dramatic love story unfolds you will
hear some of Puccini’s finest music, all the way through to the deeply tragic
ending. This collaboration with OPERA FAIRBANKS presents the rising dramatic
soprano, Susan Foster, in the title role.
The Chicago Tribune wrote: “Without doubt, the most
thrilling voice of the evening belonged to Susan Foster, a soprano blessed with
an enormous instrument. It takes a sound as large as Foster’s to fill the
cavernous theatres around the world where great names are made... She spun high
notes of remarkable luster and force. Her midrange, too, was unusually
appealing, as much for its suppleness and beauty of tone as its sheer power.
But Foster can be persuasive in pianissimo passages, too, her tone carrying
